November 05, 2005
By David Bryant
When a marina fire erupts it often spreads so quickly that firefighters have immense problems containing and extinguishing the fire. The results are huge losses of property and possibly even lives. Seaworthy Magazine reported the most likely causes of fire on a boat. They are:
- AC and DC wiring/appliance - 55%
- Engine/Transmission Overheat - 24%
- Fuel Leaks - 8%
- Miscellaneous - 7%
- Unknown - 5%
- Stove - 1%
Remember, Only You Can Prevent Boating Fires! Do a routine check of your wiring to make sure there no disasters waiting to happen.
